5 Tips on Becoming a Blogger

When I started blogging, I didn’t realise how big it would become and how it’s literally like another world. Now that I’m so into it, I’m able to see the full extent of effort people go to just to create one YouTube video or one blog post. Let me tell you that a decent blog post can take a day in itself to shoot and write up! YouTube is new to me so it’s taking me a few days to edit videos and still get my head around things.

Anyway, I get asked a lot of questions about starting one up and advice on what people can do to get themselves out there. It’s not easy! Yet again, nothing worth having comes easy. So I thought I’d just put together a little manual with 5 tips on how you can start up your blog today.

What are you Passionate about?
The most important thing about blogging is what you’re actually blogging about. There are so many things that people can write about now including video games, magic, technology and lots lots more. For me, I chose Fashion, Beauty & Lifestyle. They’re the 3 main things I love so I knew I wouldn’t get bored of writing about it all day.

Explore New Places & Blogs
Maybe you’re more of a lifestyle and flat shot photographer. That’s fine and maybe all you need is a few nice backgrounds to lay things on. It’s great for you to explore new blogs who are both similar and slightly different to your style. Venture out and see what others bloggers are taking photos of. It helps to give you a bit of inspiration. I also love exploring places in London and taking photos in different locations. It’s all part of building up my image and seeing what the city has to offer. Maybe I could stumble across a coffee shop which would inspire me to create content about it.

Good Quality Photos
This is key! Personally from past experience, I wouldn’t follow someone if the quality of their images weren’t up to scratch. I love looking at clean & crisp images where strong images and content are being built around it. I have an iPhone 7 so the quality of my camera is quite good. Therefore sometimes I will just take snaps on there, other times I will use my camera. As long as your images aren’t blurry or pixelated then you're good to go.

Get Socialising
Contacts are such an important thing in this industry as they’re what could potentially get you work. I try and stay in touch with as many people as possible as you never know what’s around the corner and who will need you. Building strong relationships is really what you need. Even down to making new friends, every time I get invited to events, I love taking one of my girlfriends along with me and getting to know more people once we’re there.

When I first started my blog, I was religiously posting 3 blog posts a week. I think I went near enough a whole year of doing this before other things and other platforms started popping up that I wanted to be a part of. Now that I’ve got a bit more stability back, I’m looking to keep up with my posts across all platforms and stick to it. I love seeing when new people have been looking at my blog each week. It makes me feel like I’m really doing my job right.

I hope this has helped towards starting up your own blog. I know it can be a bit daunting at first but when you get yourself into the routine of it, then you’ll start seeing what’s best for you.
