Monday's Update: Flo On Instagram

A couple of weeks ago I decided to create Flo (mine & Sam's puppy) an Instagram account. I know you're probably thinking I'm crazy, like Sam did, but there's defiantly a method to my madness.

When I was doing my PR Internship, I got to understand how much pets and animals are in such high demand for advertising and promoting. Pet Instagram's are working the same way as bloggers and they're just becoming more and more popular! So I thought, why not create one for Flo and just see what happens. And now, Flo gets more likes and comments on her photos than what I do!

As well as running my own Instagram account which you can find HERE, I love running Flo's and creating a little story line for her. I find it so much fun and I have to laugh at all these animal sayings and quotes I often come across!

Watch this space because there's definitely much more to come from her!

Check out Flo's Instagram account HERE.

5 Tips I've Learnt Since Blogging

When I first decided that I wanted to create a blog, I tried to find so many tips and inspiration on where to even begin. I read blogs every week and found out peoples personal opinions of blogging and how they have built their blogs up to where they are today.

Over the past month of two, I've been receiving many Instagram messages and emails from my readers about how I started my blog and how to help those who want to start one themselves. I know I've only been blogging for 7 months now, but in the space of that time, I've learnt some valuable tips which I would love to share with you.

Confidence
This is the biggest advice I could give to someone. About 2 years ago I decided that I wanted to start a blog but I had no confidence in doing it as I worried too much about what people would think of me. But I bit the bullet and here I am. Now I couldn't be happier with my decision to start a blog because I'm having so much fun with growing and creating my website. Confidence is key! Remember, the first blog is the hardest.

Content
Your content has to be varied and strong in order to keep people wanting more. Try to write in a more chatty and informal way as people feel like that get to know you more. I've been stuck a number of times on what to write about but a little research never hurts anyone. If I'm a bit stuck, I love reading through blogs and finding posts that give you a list of topics to blog about. Another way of creating my content is looking through magazines. This gives me a chance to see what major companies are talking about and how I could incorporate it into my blog. You also have to be passionate about the posts you're creating and the words will then come easy.

Engage
If your readers comment on your posts or images, then always give them a little mention back. Bloggers rely so much on their followers and readers as they help to grow page views as well as spreading your blog. I'm forever thankful to those who comment on my posts and Instagram photos as there's nothing better than knowing people appreciate your time and work. Also think about asking  retorical questions on your blog. You never know, you may just get someone replying to your comment.

Hashtag
I know it looks 'cringe' and everything else but let me tell you now ... I would not have as many followers on My Instagram if I didn't hashtag! Use Instagram to it's full advantage and tag words on your photos that have thousands of posts. For instance, when you upload your photo to instagram, hashtag and type the beginning of a word and see what suggestions come up. Always go for the highest ones as these are the words that people search for on a daily basis. I always go for the likes of: #instadaily #blogger #photooftheday and everything else that's relevant to that image. Take a look at my Instagram account HERE to see more on what I hashtag.

Be Original
I know it can be hard to try and create a blog that's never been done before. Because lets be honest, there are so many bloggers out there. But you have to be yourself as that's why people will read your blog. Readers and followers want to learn who you are. Many bloggers read through other blogs to find a bit of inspiration and to see what they're talking about. There's nothing wrong with this as long as you don't copy. Be creative with your work and think about things that you haven't seen before. Think a little bit 'outside the box and don't be afraid to experiment. After all, experimenting will help to create and develop you as a blogger. And last of all, always be honest so people believe in what you do.

There's so many more little tips out there that we're all learning along the way but these are just a few that I want to share with my readers and followers that I know are interested in creating their own blog.

The History Of The Denim Skirt

I love looking into history of fashion and finding out more about certain styles and how they have evolved over time. So today I'm going to share with you a bit of history on the denim skirt ...

Hippies were the first to invent the denim skirt in the 1960's. Now a days, this style is recognised all over the world. The skirt was created on the streets and since then, it has been picked up by major fashion designers.

Hippies had the idea of recycling old denim jeans into long denim skirts. They did this by opening up the middle seams and filling in that triangular gap with other pieces of denim or even other fabric for a bit of contrast. My Mum seems to recall that they reinvented this style when she was younger. Does anyone else remember this triangular style denim skirt?

It took about 10 years for the new design to be picked up by mainstream fashion lines. Which I'm surprised it took this long as fashion is such a fast paced industry! But hay-ho, we got there! And of course, when a style is noticed, it is recreated by designers in so many different ways. Since then, they have evolved into denim mini skirts, high waisted skirts and many more!

And we now thank all of those hippies out there that have given us the denim skirts we know today!

Monday's Update: Celebrating London Fashion Week

London Fashion Week is just insane I'm gutted that I didn't get myself a ticket. However, I'll definitely be attending next time! When I was studying at The Fashion Retail Academy, I was given the opportunity to attend Graduate Fashion Week. Which was amazing, so I can only imagine how good LFW is!

Fashion Week is all about flaunting the new designer collections from brands that were founded in London. And Fashion Week is the inspiration of all collections that run through to our favourite high street brands! Maybe its fur, a specific print or colour but in some way, shape or form, the trend would of come from Fashion Week.

Yesterday Topshop Unique had their show which was unreal. I'm a sucker for Topshop and it's amazing that it's the only retailer on the high street that has their own show at London Fashion Week. You can watch their AW16 show HERE.

Another one of my favourite brands is Mulberry. If you've read some of my previous blog posts, you'll know that I love Mulberry and I wear my Black Bayswater Bracelet in most of my blogs. So yes I would say that their show yesterday was a hit! You can watch their AW16 show HERE.

So London Fashion Week isn't over yet, we still have until Tuesday to soak up on all of our AW16 trends. And today, I cannot wait to see Burberry walk down the catwalk revealing their new collection. That's one I'll be looking out for!

As always, these Monday Update photos aren't my own. Their taken from Topshop Unique's AW16 Lookbook.

Peekaboo

This week I was so grateful to receive a message from Peekaboo Eyelashes offering to send me some lashes to try out!

Girls love new eyelashes and since my Mum bought me some at Christmas, I've enjoyed experimenting with them. Of course I'd wear them on a night out, but I'm loving the natural lashes just as much right now. I'm so happy that I now have a little collection of lashes to choose from by Peekaboo Eyelashes. All of their products come with their own glue which dries so well so no need to buy you're own pot.

Some people find it hard to apply eyelashes so I'm going to fill you in on a few tips on how to apply your Peekaboo Eyelashes:

1. Eyeliner
Eyeliner is a must for me if I'm going to apply eyelashes as I don't want to have those little gaps between my lashes and my eyelids. I use liquid eyeliner but you can use a pencil if you prefer :)

2. Cut Them Down
Not all eyelashes fit everyone so remember to cut them down to suit you. Before adding glue, put them against your eyelid to make sure you're cutting to the perfect size.

3. Tweezers
I find this the best way to apply my Peekaboo lashes as I can stick them as close as possible to my natural lashes. A few years ago, I was using my fingers but the frustration got the best of me and I just gave up in the end haha. So remember your tweezers!

In the photo I'm wearing the finer eyelashes and I cannot wait to try on the others! I'll share those photos with you when I do so. Next time I need lashes then I definitely know where to get them!

If you're looking for some new eyelashes then check out Peekaboo on Instagram HERE. They're currently in the process of creating their website so if you're interested then just drop them a message :)

Suede & Stripes

I must say that this is one of my fav looks at the moment. I love the simplicity of it and how you can just accessorise it up with anything!

I've mentioned this skirt in one of my previous looks and it's honestly the best wardrobe staple. I bought this skirt in Topshop a while back and since then I've seen that they have a brown one! So next pay day I know where I'll be going straight away ...

This t-shirt is just a must. It's easy to pair up with jeans, skirts, pinafores ... well everything really. You can dress it up or down depending on the occasion.

My little Michael Kors bag, I just love it. I'm always the girl who will take out a H U G E bag containing the contents of my whole entire bedroom. I laugh when I empty it because I then have about 10 hairbands, 3 perfumes, pens, vaseline's and everything else .... So this bag is the best thing for me because I just can't get away with throwing everything in!

My boots are just a favourite. I could go on about these forever and ever ...

Unfortunately some of the items I'm wearing are out of stock on the website. But I'd definitely still check in stores to see whether they still have them! If not, I've linked things that are similar below in the outfit details section.

Monday's Update : Becoming An Assistant Buyer

I was absolutely delighted to receive a promotion from work this week! I'm now an assistant buyer, a position that I have dreamt about for a long time.

Throughout my two years at The Fashion Retail Academy, it was all about my buying lessons. They got me so excited to get out into the industry and to start my career!

I had a meeting this week about my new position and found out that my buying trips include London, of course and also Italy! I cannot tell you how excited I am to fly to Milan and Florence over the next few years to visit huge designer fashion houses. All the perks of being an assistant buyer!

All of these experiences are really going to help me enhance my blog content which I'm really excited about. So watch this space!

As always, these Monday Update photos aren't my own. I've taken these from Instagram. Don't forget to check it out:

The Bomber Never Dates

I think I've got bit of an addiction to bomber jackets at the moment. I have a few of them now and I just find them so easy to wear. I love being able to dress them up with girly outfits or maybe with trainers to go for a tom boy look.

Green is a colour I always go for! There's something about green that I just love ... probably because my Mum always says it goes with my eyes. I've always loved the whole army look and colours so this bomber works so well with that. Even if I go shopping with Sam, I always point him in the direction of army and bottle greens outfits. (He thanks me for it now haha)

And as for this simple grey dress, it's just a wardrobe staple. It's the type of dress I can just throw on and dress it up with a nice jacket, or a green bomber in this instance!

Another Urban Outfitters combo which I love! Make sure you check out their website HERE.

A huge thank you to Ellie Ratcliffe, a very talented photographer who helped me show off this outfit! Definitely make sure you check out her portfolio.
