This Months Catch Up

So where do I even start? What a whirlwind month I’ve had. You may have noticed that I’ve been a bit distant for the past few weeks and maybe you saw my Instagram Disneyland photo captioned ’I’ve had a few personal issues going on’. Since then, I’ve had so many of you lovely people asking me what’s going on and if I’m okay so I’ve decided to do a blog post about everything that’s been happening.

I’ve never spoken much about my other working life on my blog so some of you may assume that I just blog full time. In fact, I quite like the healthy balance between working for a company and working for myself. I like to live a busy life and am constantly on the go so this routine has always worked out well for me. With that being said, a few weeks ago I left my job which I’d been at for 6 years to progress onto bigger and better things. Over those years, I’ve made such an amazing bond with everyone and it was quite upsetting to say goodbye.

I then took a week off and went to Disneyland Paris with my family which was amazing and the blog post is still yet to follow! I’m going to be playing catch up for a while but please bare with me because I can’t wait to show you all of the photos I took whilst I was there.

When I got back from Disneyland, the day after I started my new job as a Buyers Admin Assistant working for Tommy Hilfiger & Calvin Klein. If you’ve followed my journey from the start, you’ll know that buying has been such a big interest of mine and it’s something I’ve always wanted to do. Before I even knew that blogging existed and when I was back in senior school, all I wanted to be when I grew up was a buyer. That’s the reason I went to The Fashion Retail Academy to learn all about buying and the industry. As you can imagine, the past few weeks have been a bit crazy as I’m trying to learn all of the new systems and to get to know everyone but so far so good and I’m absolutely loving it!

Lots of love xx

5 Of My Favourite Things to do When I'm Not Working

I rarely take time away from work as I love what I do and always want to create new ideas and lots of new content. With blogging, it's pretty much a 24/7 job and that's why you have to have a real passion for the industry and daily tasks. I often get moaned at by my Mum and Sam to 'take a break' as I'm always on the go and struggle to take time out of what I'm doing. Anyway, when I do take time out, here's a few things I love to do.

Spending time with my friends and family. They're probably the main reason for why I do take time out from blogging and I always appreciate the time I spend with them. Me and the girls often go out every other weekend and I always see Sam throughout the week. 3 Years down and we still love our date nights together, going out for dinner, shopping, or any other activities we decide to book along the way.

Organising myself and work tasks. I love keeping organised and staying on top of what I'm doing. When I'm working, I often find myself finishing something and jumping straight onto the next task. I use my time out as a way of checking off all the weekly tasks I've completed and marking ones that I'm going to catch up on the following week.

Going to the gym and working out. The gym is a good place for me to just forget everything and become stress free. I use this time to catch up on my TV episodes which I mentioned in my '5 Things I'm Loving This May' and just forget about work and the tasks I still need to complete. This is my time and I love keeping fit and attending classes at least 4/5 times a week.

Taking photos. Okay so maybe this counts as working ... but it's such a passion I have that it never feels like work. Since I was 13/14, I've always enjoyed taking photos in my spare time and I still love taking my camera out with me everywhere I go.

Pampering myself. Who doesn't love a pampering session? I love taking time to fake tan, apply my cleansers and moisturisers, paint my nails, face masks, foot masks etc. Foot masks are probably my favourite of them all! One of the girls brought a few with her to Marbella last year and ever since then I'm hooked!

What are your 5 favourite things to do when you're not working?

5 Tips for Staying Positive When You're Having a Bad Day

I'm really into reading mindful books and understand the power behind the mind and how it can influence us to do and become anything we want. I like thinking deep into certain situations and training my mind to be positive even when I'm having a bad day.

I mentioned on my insta-stories a few weeks back about how I've been reading this book called 'Find Calm by Anna Barnes' and how it's helped me to think differently in certain scenarios. I previously tried reading The Secret which most people swear by - I wanted to see what the hype was all about. To be honest, it didn't work for me. I didn't feel like it was that deep and didn't influence me to react differently to things. I think it's great for people who aren't perhaps into mindful reading and it's a great stepping stone, but I felt like it didn't make me think as deep as I hoped.

That's why I decided to download 'Find Calm' on my phone as it's full of quotes that I could relate to on a daily basis. It's not too heavy and it's been a great read for me. I wanted to share a few points that have helped me to stay positive whilst I'm having a bad day.

It's not the situations themselves, it's how we deal with them. This made me feel a bit more human as we all experience bad situations that sometimes can't be helped. It's how we deal with them that helps to bring up the positive vibes. It's easy for some of us to dwell over certain things but in hindsight, that's not helping the negative situation. We need to take a second to understand what has happened and how we're going to deal and overcome it.

Find 3 positives within a negative. It's good to experience negative situations as it's part of life and how we learn and develop as people. Sometimes we struggle to see the positives, but trying to find at least one can help to uplift your mind and thought process. With every negative, I try and replace it with at least 3 positives. I understand some situations are a lot harder than others and sometimes it can be extremely hard to think of any.

If a problem is fixable, then there is no need to worry. It it's not fixable, then there is no help in worrying. I relate a lot better to the first part as I've experienced bad situations that are fixable, yet I've sometimes thought it's the worst thing that could have happened. As it states, if something is fixable then there is no need to worry. It may take some time to fix, but you know there is a light at the end of the tunnel and everything is going to be resolved in the end.

Nothing can bring you peace but yourself. Sometimes we're our own worst enemy and can really beat ourselves up on things. We need to remember that when we find peace, it's because we've trained ourselves to react positively and being able to switch your mindset to think that way is extremely powerful and rewarding.

There is no greatness where there is not simplicity. You've probably heard countless amounts of times that 'nothing worth having comes easy, and something that comes easy isn't worth having'. If you overcome certain challenges, the greatness is extremely rewarding. You understand everything you've been through and what you've overcome to be in the situation you are today.

How do you stay positive when you're having a bad day?

What I Wore in Rhodes, Greece

I've recently returned home from Rhodes and already I'm suffering from those typical post-holiday blues. Me and Sam stayed on the Greek island for 8 days where we spent most of our time catching a tan and chilling out - it's the first time we've done anything like that! Our usual holidays consist of different excursions every single day but this time, we wanted to strip it back and totally relax.

As always, I managed to overpack my suitcase with lots of things I didn't wear nor use whilst I was away. But that's just a girls thing, right? I also packed lots of new clothes that I had delivered just before I went away and wanted to share my outfits with you.

During the day, I wanted to be more comfortable in what I wore as I hoped to catch a tan in the 27 degrees + heat. Usually in the UK, I wear t-shirt dresses and nothing really changed whilst I was on holiday. I ordered 3 different t-shirt dresses from Hype which were essential and often found myself throwing them on top of my bikinis when we visited the beaches.

My other alternative was this beach coverup from Pretty Little Thing and which unfortunately, is no longer on the website. On one of the days, me and Sam hired a car and drove into Rhodes new town where we stopped off to grab McDonalds. The new town was a bit more commercial so you can get away with being a typical Brit and walking around wearing next to nothing haha.

The evenings were a tricky one as our hotel restaurant was quite posh and had certain rules for what you could and couldn't wear for dinner. Every night Sam had to wear trousers so I jumped off the back of that and also went for a dress-ier attire. I loved wearing this faded leopard print body suit and faux suede skirt together and then paired it with some heeled sandals.

One night we decided to change our half board dinner to lunch in the hotel. When we arrived we grabbed a pizza in a restaurant just down the road from our hotel so we wanted to go back there for a proper dinner. I got sunburnt quite bad on this day so I also wore a lightweight blazer as I started to get quite cold in the evening.

And the most important of them all; swimwear. I was addicted to this new coral/pink bikini from Pretty Little Thing and found myself wearing it a few times over. I love wearing corals whilst I'm away on holiday as they really help to enhance my tan. One piece of advice; if you do buy this bikini, if it's wet, make sure you keep it away from any other clothes as the dye in mine ran and nearly ruined one of my dresses but thankfully, my Mum managed to wash it out before it permanently stained.

Another bikini I wore was from Figleaves. They have quite a lot of swimwear on their website so if you're going away, make sure you check them out. I've got quite a few bits from there now and I'm so happy with the quality of their stuff.

Breakfast with Dorina at The Shard & Wishlist

Words can't describe how grateful I am when opportunities like this come up. Being invited to places like The Shard makes me realise where I started from in blogging and where I am now. Never stop chasing your dreams as one day, they'll come true if you work hard enough opportunities will come your way.

I was invited to breakfast with Dorina to celebrate the launch of their latest summer collection and what better place to have it than, The Shard. Emma and myself made our way to London Bridge in time for breakfast at 9am. Once inside, we had a walk around meeting all of the Dorina team and lots of amazing influencers. We also spent a while going through the underwear and bikini collection, taking turns to pick out our favourites.

We sat around the table where there were boxes full of goodies from Dorina - we'd been totally spoilt! Whilst we were eating, we were all chatting around the table about adventures and experiences we had planned over the summer. There were a few influencers off to Bali and another had recently moved to LA so there were lots of exciting stuff going on.

After breakfast, Emma and I made our way to Westminster where we spent the majority of our afternoon sightseeing and gathering lots of content.

I'd love to say a huge thank you to Dorina for inviting me to have breakfast with you all at The Shard and I can't wait to fall in love with the next collection!

Visit to Pretty Little Thing's Showroom & Wishlist

Last week I paid a little visit to Pretty Little Thing with my bestie, Emma Corrie Hill. We were spending the day in London and thought I would be nice to pop in and see the girls again. When we got to the showroom, around the room were rails full of new summer and festival clothes for us to pick from. They were literally giving me all of the summer vibes that's for sure!

Me and Sam were in the process of booking a holiday at the time so I decided to go for some outfits that would be great for an evening abroad. The good news is, me and Sam finally managed to book our holiday and we actually fly out on the 20th May. Talk about last minute haha.

With that, I thought I'd share a little summer shop with you to browse through. They're also the number one things on my wishlist at the moment.

Boohoo X Stefflon Don Launch Event & Wishlist

A few weeks back I was invited to the Boohoo event to celebrate the launch of Stefflon Don's new collection which was held in Libertine Club, London. It was an absolute honour to be invited by a company such as Boohoo to an event with an exclusive performance by Stefflon Don. As you know from the songs I'm forever posting on my insta stories, I love that kind of music and couldn't wait to she had up her sleeves.

I actually drove the event and managed to bag myself a car parking space right outside the club. I've been driving through London quite a lot recently and I'm quite liking it. I love being in the comfort of my own car and not restricted to train timetables.

Me and my friend Rosella Castellana watched Stefflon Don's performance and it was insaneeee! We managed to get a space right at the front and had the best view the whole way through. Stefflon Don is such a great performer and got the whole crowd involved which is always good.

The collection dropped the day after the event and since then, they've been adding lots of new lines which I wanted to share with you all throughout my wish list below.

Have you shopped the collection yet? What do you think of it? Let me know in the comments below.

This Weeks Latest Accessories from Coconut Lane + Discount Code!

A few weeks back I decided to sell my iMac computer after having it for just one year. Throughout the 12 months of having it in one stationary position, I come to realise that I needed something a bit more practical, something that I could take everywhere with me as I'm always on the go. That's when I decided to also sell my MacBook Air and upgraded to the latest MacBook Pro.

As soon as I got my new laptop, I was so worried about not having a case for it as I know what I get like. In the past when I've been in a rush, I've thrown my old laptop in my bag next to one of my hairbrushes and pulled it out later with hundreds of scratches - I don't want to be doing that again! That's when I found the perfect one on Coconut Lane's website. Now with summer around the corner, I wanted a case that was a bit bright and colourful.

I carried on looking through Coconut Lane's website and came across the matching doughnut notepad that I fell in love with. You guys know I'm obsessed with my notepads so one more wouldn't harm haha.

If you're looking for some new accessories or heading abroad this summer, make sure you check out Coconut Lane's website as they've just released their latest travel collection and it's super cute! Oh and don't forget to use my discount code for 20% off your order 'robynbates20'.

5 Things I'm Loving this May

I'm quite impulsive and find myself slightly changing up my daily routine every so often to freshen things up and to implement new things. Sometimes I get to use to certain products or tasks so I like to  try out new things that may work for me. Here's a few things that I'm loving this month.

Watching TOWIE whilst working out. When I was in senior school, I was addicted to TOWIE and wouldn't be able to miss one episode. Since I started blogging, my lifestyle became a bit hectic and I couldn't find myself committing to many TV programmes at their original scheduled times. Now I like to watch TOWIE on playback whilst I'm doing cardio in the gym. This may be whilst I'm doing a fat burner stop/start treadmill sprint or a fast paced incline walk. I started watching catch up TV as always avoided cardio so this helped to take my mind off of what I was actually doing.

Keeping organised on my new MacBook laptop. I love being organised but I often found myself changing the way I plan things from using a traditional diary, to my iPad, to a notepad etc. Now that I have my new MacBook, I love keeping myself organised by using my reminders and calendar apps on a daily basis.

Keeping my bedroom tidy. Since I started blogging, I noticed how messy I became with maintaining my bedroom. Over the past 2 years, I've had parcels scattered across my bedroom floor with no real organisation behind them. I've been trying my upmost best to put everything back in it's place and making sure everything has a home - not just the bedroom floor!

Keeping on top of my work tasks. Admittedly, sometimes I've let things slip and have found my to-do list pretty overwhelming. It's not necessarily a bad thing as I have lots of ideas and plans and just wanted to tick everyone of them off in one day. It's pretty impossible and sometimes I've not known where to start. The key is to take one step at a time and this month I've been doing a good job of staying on top of my work load.

Editing my photos using Lightroom. Lightroom has been around for quite some time now but I always opted for using iPhone editing apps as they're quite straight forward and easy to use. A lot of my friends had started using Lightroom and I wanted to see what all the hype was about. Like with anything I do, I try my best to research before forking out on programmes and softwares. With that, I thought that downloading Lightroom would be a great alternative and I've been addicted ever since. I've discovered lots of new editing tools and I'm excited to create my own style and filter on things.

What are you loving this month?
